Pursuing an MBA degree is of no small consequence; it requires diligence, a measure of business acumen, and practical intelligence. Of course, not all MBA programs are the same, and part of the equation is hinged on choosing the program that would best suit an individual`s needs. It is not just a question of how to get into a top-tier MBA program like Harvard`s but about managing one`s expectations and fitting the course of the education into one`s lifestyle. It wouldn`t also hurt to nitpick on one`s motivations for an MBA for that is also an utmost consideration.

First thing to be considered is the length of the MBA program. A full-time MBA program normally runs for 21 months, a two-year focused study that requires the student to take a leave from work. This means a stable income source is swapped for continuing education, a decision that may prove a hurdle for some. If one would choose to take an MBA full-time then he must make sure that he has other income sources or that his lifestyle could still be managed given the change. The good thing though is that one could finish the MBA much earlier, creating an earlier eligibility for pay raises or more professional opportunities.

A part-time MBA covers the other option, one that maintains a slower pace of learning in exchange for a more stable situation. Choosing to study part-time means learning within the MBA program would be spread out, on the average, into a five-year program. This means that a student could better integrate his learning into his present work, an opportunity for which there could be a chance for better compensation even if he hasn`t finished his degree. In addition, the tuition would be a lot more manageable because it is paid piece-wise over the course of the longer period. But one should also take into consideration that deciding to study MBA part-time would also mean that one is required to juggle studies with other responsibilities.

In the end, the choosing an MBA program all boils down to one`s priorities. If the current conditions require that one should have more stability, then a part-time MBA program is in order. If one could sacrifice a few years of one`s time for a faster and more prominent career growth and more money, a full-time MBA program would be a better option. Just be mindful of one`s goals and all would be well.
